There’s something so magical about those very first days of a baby’s life. Everything feels new, tender, and fleeting. As a newborn photographer, one of the questions I get asked most often is:
“When is the best time to schedule newborn photos?”
The answer: within the first two weeks after your baby is born. Here’s why this window is so special—and why it helps create those dreamy, timeless newborn images you’ll treasure forever.
During those first 14 days, babies are still very sleepy and love to curl up just like they were in the womb. This makes it easier (and safer!) to gently pose them into those cozy, swaddled positions you see in classic newborn portraits.
After two weeks, babies often become more alert and aware of their surroundings—which is beautiful too, but it means they’re less likely to stay curled up and snoozy during their session.
It’s incredible how much your little one will change in just a few short weeks. That tiny button nose, those wrinkly toes, the way their hands curl around your finger—these details shift so fast.
By scheduling your newborn session in the first two weeks, we’re able to capture your baby when they’re at their tiniest, preserving all those little details before they grow.
The early days of parenthood can be a whirlwind—feedings, diapers, sleepless nights. A newborn photo session gives you a chance to slow down, breathe, and soak in the sweetness of this stage.
Many parents tell me their session felt like a much-needed pause in the middle of all the chaos—a moment to really take in their baby and celebrate becoming a family.
If your little one has an older brother or sister, the newborn stage is such a tender time to capture that new bond. Older siblings are often bursting with excitement, love, and curiosity. Those early cuddles, kisses, and proud big sibling smiles are priceless to document.
Newborn photos aren’t just about having beautiful images for today. They’re heirlooms for tomorrow. Your baby will never be this tiny again—but through photos, you’ll always be able to remember just how small they once were.
Because babies come on their own timeline, I recommend reaching out to schedule your newborn session during your second or third trimester. That way, we’ll have a spot reserved for you, and once your little one arrives, we’ll finalize the exact date.
Whether we’re capturing those precious moments in my cozy studio or in the comfort of your own home around Kitsap and Pierce County—Port Orchard, Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Belfair, Gig Harbor, or Tacoma—my goal is always the same: to create a calm, relaxed experience for you and your baby.
The first two weeks are an ideal time for newborn photos because they capture your baby at their sleepiest, tiniest, and most curled-up stage. But no matter when we photograph your little one, these images will be filled with love—and that’s what makes them timeless.
